Your stop tail is wrong. I feature my -- single owner -- 1977 Univox LP-JR Single-SB / DC on my channel, which I purchased brand new (duplicitous statement with "single owner"). I did have to change the tortoise shell pick guard (the original, which I kept, "crystalized"). I also changed the pots (the originals, which I kept, are "scratchy"). In any case, the stop tail should be fully adjustable (which makes the Univox superior to the Gibson brand -- hence, the "limited edition", as Univox was sued by Gibson and had to cease production).
Great Sounding Guitars For The Price
I bought a cheap, plastic "X" Martin when they first came out - I've bought, sold, and played probably 50+ other guitars in the interim it doesn't sound "great" - nor is it "exceptional" to play, but it is durable, reliable, and consistent. Need a decent beach guitar? a camping guitar? One week, you might be camping in the cold rain in Oregon - pull that X factor Martin out a week later in the dry heat of Vegas AND IT MIGHT STILL BE IN TUNE!!!! When it comes to a beater guitar, I'm sold on richlight, xood, whatever they use.... I could get off the top lift in Aspen, sit on it and carve my way down to the bar, dust it off, and break out Pinball Wizard w/o touching a tuner.
Thank you for the comments! Couldn't agree more.
That second song is awesome… whatever is it?
Really guy...?? How the heck are we supposed to hear a single thing of either guitar when you're both okay in at the same time? You might as well of just called the video "two guys jamming the same song." 🙄
ole kzoo baby had to get one to see if some mojo carried over in the pride of crafting guitars in the gibson building
Ooba
I had a Taylor 150e, wouldn’t stay in tune, sold it and bought an Alvarez.
This is a comparison of unpotted pickups vs potted pickups.
I have a '60s standard and a '59 VOS reissue and there is a noticeable difference in playability and quality of tone. I definitely prefer the Custom Shop Les Paul but I can't say it's "twice as good" because the '60s standard is an awesome guitar in its own right. I love them both.
How can anyone take this seriously wearing masks 😂😂😂😂
In the direct comparison, the 58' sounds much better....
I've played both of these, the Taylor has a bright, arguably harsh sound, whereas the Martin is far more balanced. I preferred the Martin.
at 0:27 that neck is pretty bent from 7th fret towards the neck puhh not pretty too look at, it hurts me 😭
I don’t think mahogany top? J45 😮
I owned this guitar personally and I can guarantee that the top is mahogany. Gibson made a very limited number of mahogany top guitars during the war. This was confirmed by Gibson. Super rare guitar! Thank you for your insight though.
Wow! What a sound, those two guitars panned in stereo. Beautiful.
Nice, Sound sooo Good!!!!
The Fishman pick up on this model isn't the Presys Blend (with the mic) unfortunately. Otherwise it's a lovely guitar
very stp sounding chords there!
Why wont you directly plug-in cable through guitar connector why through mic ??
0:12 0:22
They sound good. At only 2 inches shorter in scale than full sized acoustic, that is not 3/4 scale. It is more like 7/8 scale. 3/4 is more like the Baby Taylor. Musicians are not math guys.
Fender squier sounds and plays way better just my opinion 😎🎸
Nice!! What strings are you using?
~ greetings from germany ~
As soon as I see the masks I just cant take a video seriously
Pretty sensitive little fella, aren't you? We try our best to support our workers, customers and the general public so if you need help with your feelings, please let us know. Happy to help you along on your journey.
I ran into some luck. It's called a job. Then covid happened. When you can't spend your money, and later Guitar Center re-opens, you turn a little stupid. I'm facing facts here. We're paying for a name. There's status involved. We're also possibly going to die one day. As a guitar player, I'm not leaving this planet without a Gibson Les Paul. Yes. I'm sold that hard because they're originally from Michigan, and so am I. It's like telling that guy from Detroit that he can't have a Mustang. Some people don't like them. But then again, some people can't listen to Black Sabbath or join the Marines. I have mine. I love mine, *Don't touch mine.* You go and play your toothpick of a Telecaster. I'll leave you alone if you leave me alone. Deal? 😊
Why is it special?
I’m going to buy an older one with some crack cracks around the bottom of The guitar on the sides, probably from humidity and high heat
Why is this called the fixed bridge? What does that actually mean
This and many other Gibson acoustics came with two bridge options in the 60's. This is the fixed version. This simply means the saddle is non-adjustable. In other words it sits directly inside the bridge and can only be adjusted by sanding the saddle down. Alternatively, the adjustable version has two screws on either side of the saddle. This ultimately allows the user to adjust the saddle up and down for height preferences. Hope this helps!
I want this electric accoustic one 😊 it may take a while to save but im sure it would be worth it
11 /14/23 - I have this same guitar. How would you compare it to the current all mahogany version?
The deluxe has a different Es2 its better.
What's happening to the sound at 4:07?
How about the action?
Have had the Martin 12 string for awhile now-bought it for 600 bucks new from a friend that owns a music store... use it playing a 10 months per year 4 nights per week gig- used the Martin for about 5 years now- it has completely cracked open on side and top twice rendering it unplayable UNTIL I glue it back together and slap the grips on it- once it dries its good to go for awhile more( i play outside in a harsh humid climate) it dont look so good, but it still sounds great- have guys come up all the time and ask what the heck I am playing because it sounds incredible ...I am also playing thru an ancient GSP 21 Pro guitar processer in true stereo mode with slight chorus, compression and reverb and alittle EQ- it sounds like 2 12 strings at the same time... I have a high end Taylor that stays in my studio and closet.. havent treid the Taylor 150 but bet it would be a match for the Martin- all I am saying is you prob cant go wrong with either one of these..thanks for the demo guys!
Зачем то маску напялил! Трусы то получше!
I'm about to try one out . Ex demo, so got a few £ off . Still an expensive guitar though . I've tried a couple of the new 50s numbers, and, though good , they were no better than my previous LP Traditional. Is it all smoke n mirrors ? We'll see.
Let us know how it works out! We would love to get your take.
Nice comparison! A couple things that might be reasons for the differences in tone. The R8's narrow frets (specific to 1958 and earlier LP's) should make the tone more woody-sounding compared to the 50's LP's medium jumbo frets which should sound more metallic. Also and more importantly, is that the R8's Custombuckers are unpotted pickups which are more sensitive to pick attack than potted pickups, slightly brighter and produce more over- and undertones which I think can be heard when you're comparing the 2 guitars. They both sound great...close, but different. Keep in mind too that the Custom Shop guitars offer premium select wood and more handmade attention and finishing which drives the price up. It's my opinion that once you get used to playing Custom Shop guitars, who can't go back.
Yep, everything you said is true. People often underestimate the detail requirements for such a guitar. The Custom Shop generally plays better than the production unit. Just my opinion. Thank you for your insight.
Instead of making the custom shop exquisite, they just made the standards shitty to justify the price😂
I've tried the latest les Paul 50s and it was very much like the traditional I had from 2016 , just the neck felt bigger. I've tried a few custom shop numbers and by and large , they have felt better. Whether they're twice the price better is another thing. Up to you at the end of day . Still gassing for one though
"Still gassing for one though" is ultimately the point when considering the Custom Shop LP. Thanks for the comment.
I own seven Taylor guitars and this thing sounds extremely tinny,I have a 2015 614ce and a 2019 614ce builders edition and neither one sounds nothing like this one,And im really glad you can keep that tin box,This is the first time ive not liked a Taylor guitar.
I have a 50s standard and recently switched the pickups to custombuckers and it has a lot more clarity like the 58 in this video and sounds amazing
Custombuckers are amazing.
I have a 2022 Les Paul 50's Standard. The guitar had Lollar Imperial Low Wind pickups when I bought it used. Awesome.
Taylor sucks , Martin does not suck. I wish I could find a Taylor that would change my mind. Been playing guitar since 1974 , thus far, to no avail.🤔
Sounds like tin
Double 12-string Sound is absolutely incredible..the Chorus and phasing effect is magical ❤❤
A guitar is like a hit or miss. You get extremely good guitars and poorly made ones from the same company. Two factors in my opinion are considered... assembly quality and pickup quality. I had 3 '58 Custom Shops and my favorite was the earlier ones 2016 up to 2019.
I just purchased a 2023 1959 custom shop VOS les Paul, and it’s a completely different machine from any of my standard USA les Paul models. The wood is old stock Gibson mahogany slabs, used in the 50’s and that alone is worth the price. And the sustain of a 1000 year old slab of mahogany opposite a 50 year old slab is all the difference. They are worth the money if you can afford one I say go for it while the wood stock last.
